PostGrad Travels: Part 2

Back to it friends! I hope everyone had a great weekend! Mine was spectacular because my Tigers proved they deserve their number 1 ranking and beat FSU! Let's just put it this way...I cried when we scored the touchdown to secure our win in the 4th quarter. Yep, that happened. Well any who, today I'm talking about the time I spent in Brugge and Ghent on my trip. If you missed part 1 check it out here.

On Tuesday of my trip I took the train for a day trip to Brugge. Brugge is about as beautiful, quaint, and majestic as it can get. When I got off the train station I struggled to find town center but luckily tagged along with a family from Argentina while we searched together. One small problem...it started down pouring.

I was not exaggerating when I said it poured.

I planned to eat breakfast in Brugge so by the time we found town center I was starving! Luckily, I found a restaurant that served breakfast with free wifi. Praise the Lord!

The center of Brugge is magical.

I loved walking through the cobblestone streets looking at all the historic buildings.

Naturally, I walked through lots of candy shops.

And old, beautiful buildings.

I went through The Historium, a museum on Brugge. Honestly, it was pretty lackluster but the views at the end were worth it.

Fall in Belgium is priceless.

Not sure what this was but it was beautiful.

This sums up Brugge. It was amazing. I would definitely recommend anyone who goes to Europe to put Brugge on their itinerary.

That said, my favorite part of Brugge was right here...

...best thing I ate the entire trip. No lie.

The next day I went to Ghent. Honestly, I wouldn't do Ghent if I could do it over again. It was pretty but it didn't have a lot to do for tourists. I could be biased because I ended up getting very lost and wandered around the majority of the time getting farther and farther away from the train station unbeknownst to me.

Brussels and Brugge was majority French speaking. French speakers in Belgium usually speak English as well so I had an easy time asking for help. Well, of course, in Ghent they speak Flemish and most don't speak English. It took me hours to find the train station. But I have to say, I was so proud of myself for not panicking. My usual M.O. for that kind of situation would be breaking down and letting it get to me. I remained calm and just tried to make progress towards the train station. Here are a few of the pictures I took in Ghent...

Started the day with breakfast.

Possibly my favorite picture. It's so beautiful. This was taken with my iPhone with no filter. Fall is gorgeous.

I walked through the park. I had some time before it started to rain to write and decompress.

This is when I started to realize I was lost.

I was 100% lost at this point. But was so excited to see a piece of home. For my fellow Clemson fans, you know what I mean!

The next morning I headed to Spain! Phew, I know that was a long one. Thank you for hanging in there with me. I would love to hear what y'all think. Happy Monday! xoxo

  3. I don't know if I would be as calm as you!!! Haha but I've also never been to Europe so I need to work on that, too! Your candy shop adventures and that dessert are right up my alley.
