Coloring my Hair

This post might make my Mom cry. See, for 22 years of my life I've never colored my hair. Not even one highlight. But I love a change. Fun fact about me...I donated my hair twice in college. I'm constantly growing my hair out, cutting it, wearing it straight, wearing it curly, etc.

Here's me after my most recent donation. Oof...I need some mascara and some blush STAT!

I never really had the desire to color my hair because I like that it's different than most and I don't really feel like paying a ton of money every 6 weeks. Now that I have a job and am in the "grown up world" I think I'm ready to take the plunge!

For kicks, this is what my hair looked like when I had it long.

That being said, I still want the color to correspond to my naturally strawberry blonde hair. I don't want all my red gone and just be blonde. Trust me I love blonde but there's a bunch out there! I've been told by several hairdressers that I have a natural ombre. I think that comes from the fact that I used to go out in the sun more so my hair turned blonder and now I don't hardly at all so the blonde has grown out. I really would love to stick with a soft ombre of blonde and red.

I would love to hear y'all's input! Should I stick with my natural hair or should I color it?

Here's my hair now. Do you see what I mean by the natural ombre?

Do you like my ideas? I would love to hear y'alls feedback! And let me know if there are any tips, tricks, or secrets I need to know about coloring my hair.

Also, today is a big day for me. If you get a second, could you pray for me? XOXO

  1. I have to get my roots done every 3 weeks or I would be completely gray...I hate that getting my hair done has turned from something fun to a necessity! Lol. Good luck today girl!!!

    1. Yeah, I can imagine it loses appeal when it's out of necessity! Thanks for your good luck wishes!

  2. Thinking of you today! I started dying my hair at 13 so I honestly can't even remember what my natural color looks like ha! I love your pictures for inspiration. I have gotten mine professionally dyed so many times, but currently it's just easier for me to use a box {not the healthiest because it dries your hair out more}. Make sure you really trust your colorist and that she/he understands what you want because I've been burned many times by that. Excited to see!

  3. I'm the same way...I've never colored my hair, mostly because of the commitment and because my Dad would probably react the same way as your Mom. It's limits your options though when you want to change things up! Good luck today, you are much braver than I am! Also I love that Blake Lively is listed on your hair-inspiration, MAJOR HAIR ENVY!

  5. Good news: ombré is a great way to start playing with color, because it's very little commitment. If you keep your roots around the same color you don't have to go for new color every 6 weeks. With ombré you can easily wait 3/4 months before touching up your color! You got this girl!! Best of luck.

  7. I have tons of natural highlights in my hair, so I've always been afraid to color it and lose that! I think as long as you take care of it and keep it super healthy, it'll look great! Your inspiration photos are gorgeous...Praying for you today <3

    1. Luckily, my hair is naturally wavy. Now, in 7th grade...I would've killed for pin straight hair! Funny how things change haha
